Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about BrassOps — from platform basics to security, onboarding, and beyond.

General

What is BrassOps?

BrassOps is a range intelligence platform purpose-built for law enforcement firearms programs. It replaces spreadsheets, paper targets, and institutional memory with a single system that tracks every shot, every officer, and every qualification — so nothing falls through the cracks. From logging scores to managing remedial workflows to analyzing shot patterns with AI, everything lives in one place.

Who is BrassOps built for?

BrassOps is designed for law enforcement agencies of any size — from 10-officer departments to 100,000+ officer agencies. The platform is used by range masters, firearms instructors, training coordinators, command staff, and IT administrators.

What problems does BrassOps solve?

Most departments still manage firearms qualifications with binders, spreadsheets, and institutional memory. When an officer's certification lapses or a training deficiency goes unaddressed, the consequences can be serious — legally, operationally, and personally. BrassOps eliminates that risk by providing real-time visibility into officer readiness, automated compliance tracking, structured remedial workflows, and a complete audit trail.

Is BrassOps a web app or desktop software?

BrassOps is a modern, web-based platform accessible from any device with a browser — desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. There's nothing to install. You log in and get to work.

Can BrassOps scale for large agencies?

Absolutely. Whether you run a small-town PD or a large metropolitan agency, BrassOps scales to fit your program. The architecture is built to handle thousands of officers, tens of thousands of qualification records, and high-concurrency usage during range days — without breaking a sweat.

Do I need to be tech-savvy to use BrassOps?

Not at all. BrassOps is designed by people who understand the range, not just software. The interface is intuitive and built for practical use — not tech demos. If you can use a smartphone, you can use BrassOps.

Features & Capabilities

What is qualification tracking?

BrassOps lets you log qualification sessions, record scores, and automatically track compliance against your agency's requirements. Every session is time-stamped with a full audit trail — no guesswork, no gaps.

How does the AI-powered shot analysis work?

Upload a photo of a target, and BrassOps delivers an instant diagnostic on shot grouping, probable cause of dispersion, and recommended corrections. It's like having an expert coach on every lane — powered by AI that's trained on firearms-specific pattern recognition.

What is auto remedial enrollment?

When an officer falls below your agency's qualification threshold, BrassOps automatically enrolls them in remedial training. No manual intervention, no missed cases — the system handles it the moment a score is logged. Remedial workflows include issue tracking, coaching notes, and escalation paths for complete defensibility.

What does officer readiness monitoring look like?

Color-coded dashboards let you see at a glance which officers are mission-ready, developing, or at risk — before it becomes a problem. You get a real-time picture of your entire department's readiness without digging through spreadsheets.

What kind of analytics does BrassOps provide?

BrassOps delivers trend data, department-wide statistics, and per-officer history that tells the full story. Identify patterns, measure progress, and make data-backed decisions. Department drill leaderboards and achievement badges add a competitive edge — motivating officers to stay sharp and giving top performers the recognition they've earned.

What is officer behavioral scoring?

Behavioral scoring tracks individual officer and agency-wide strengths and weaknesses over time. It pinpoints skill gaps, surfaces patterns, and gives you the data to design targeted trainings that address real deficiencies — not just check a box.

Does BrassOps support dry-fire training?

Yes. Officers can log and track dry-fire sessions to maintain readiness between range days. Build consistent habits with structured practice that gets recorded and measured. Achievement badges unlock as officers hit milestones, keeping training engaging.

What are the automated alerts?

BrassOps notifies you when officers are flagged, qualifications are lapsing, or remedial cases need attention. The system watches so you don't have to — no more manually checking spreadsheets to catch expiring certifications.

What does Range Ops include?

Range Ops lets you manage scheduling, automations, inventory, and day-of logistics from one place. Streamline the operational side of your range so your team can focus on what matters — training.

Are there tools specifically for instructors?

Yes. BrassOps includes dedicated instructor tools that let you assign instructors, track coaching history, and measure officer progress over time. Your training cadre gets the visibility they need to be effective and accountable.

What is the Armory section?

The Armory gives you full weapon inventory management — track every firearm by serial number, see which officer it's assigned to, schedule and log inspections, and maintain a complete repair history. Know the status of every weapon in your fleet from issue to retirement, all in one place.

Security, Compliance & Data

Is BrassOps secure enough for law enforcement data?

Yes. BrassOps is built from the ground up with law enforcement data security in mind. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is role-based, and the platform is hosted on infrastructure designed to meet the compliance requirements of government and public safety agencies.

How does BrassOps handle security for law enforcement data?

BrassOps is built with law enforcement-grade security from the ground up — AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS in transit, role-based access controls, and comprehensive audit logging. Training and qualification data is sensitive, and we treat it that way. If your agency has specific compliance requirements, our team will work with you to ensure alignment.

Where is my data stored?

BrassOps data is stored on secure, U.S.-based cloud infrastructure with redundancy and backups to ensure availability. Your data never leaves the country and is isolated per agency.

Who can access our department's data?

Only authorized personnel within your department can access your data. BrassOps uses role-based access controls, so range masters, instructors, command staff, and officers each see only what's appropriate for their role. No other agency can see your data.

Does BrassOps maintain an audit trail?

Yes. Every action — qualification scores logged, remedial enrollments, coaching notes, status changes — is time-stamped and recorded. This creates a complete, defensible record for audits, legal proceedings, and internal reviews.

Can we export our data?

Absolutely. Your data is your data. BrassOps supports data exports so you can generate reports, share records with oversight bodies, or maintain local backups whenever needed.

What happens to our data if we cancel?

If you ever decide to leave BrassOps, we provide a full data export so you retain all your records. After a reasonable transition period, your data is permanently deleted from our systems per our data retention policy.
